Man, I’m loving me some Grootslang right about now.
So, as you might have guessed, there are a lot of different interpretations of the Grootslang running around out there, and mainly they seem to be some sort of chimeric mashup, where the parts are readily recognizable as the creatures that the Grootslang eventually becomes. Right now I’m trying to draw a scaly elephant without just drawing a scaly elephant:
I’m getting there, I think. I gave it a lindworm-esque silhouette, in order to keep it at least somewhat serpentine but still clearly pachydermish. The ears becoming something like a cobra’s hood seemed like an obvious choice, though one that seemed unexplored in my forays with Google Image Search. I’m feeling that the neck might need to be a bit longer, but I’m not fully on board with that just yet- I don’t want to bury the elephantine influence completely.
And as a brief aside, I wanted to mention the show “Secret Saturdays.” because in the Grootslang episode, the protagonists outsmart the Grootslang by luring it away from the village it plans to terrorize by basically taking it on a drag hunt- they wave a piece of pork in front of it and lead it away. I’m not sure how I feel about this.
Now as we went over yesterday, the Grootslang can be bargained with (gems for not getting stomped/mauled/eaten), so it’s at least a little intelligent. Probably a lot, since the gods gave it an overabundance of cunning, as the legend goes, so I call shenanigans.
